Tenure rights and forest guardianship

ASSESSING PRINCIPLES, STANDARDS AND MECHANISMS FOR SUPPORT TO INDIGENOUS PEOPLES’ TENURE RIGHTS AND FOREST GUARDIANSHIP

In May 2022, Charapa was contracted by the Ford Foundation, the Christensen Fund and the David and Lucile Packard Foundation to undertake an independent process to assess principles, standards and mechanisms for best supporting Indigenous Peoples’ tenure rights and forest guardianship in tropical and subtropical forests in countries that are eligible for Official Development Assistance (ODA). The assessment process aimed at capturing Indigenous Peoples’ experiences and aspirations and will therefore facilitate participation of indigenous organisations from tropical and subtropical countries across Africa, Asia and Latin America through a series of outreach events, data collection through an on-line questionnaire and the organization of regional workshops.
