At COP 26, the Forest Tenure Funders Groups pledged 1.7 billion USD to support Indigenous Peoples and local communities in tropical and subtropical forests. However, Indigenous Peoples are still waiting for the transformative action that could secure their tenure rights and forest guardianship in the context of catastrophic climate change.
In 2022, more than 200 indigenous peoples’ organisations and networks from forest areas in Africa, Asia and Latin America gathered to formulate recommendations on how to channel funds in a way that underpin their rights, as enshrined in the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples.
